Paul of Tarsus is not a trickster or hustler pushing some fake remedy for the troubles of life. He grew up with the finest education and pedigree for his times and then called it all rubbish compared to knowing Jesus. Following Jesus was costly for Paul — he experienced being shipwrecked, bitten by a poisonous asp, and frequently beaten and stoned. After multiple times in jail for preaching Jesus he writes from a prison cell — describing his abiding trust in God that he calls the secret of being content. He invites us to imitate him and find the same radical trust and contentment. Sounds like Ann Voskamp’s Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are — are you up for that dare? Read Philippians 4:9-12 and Matthew 5:14-16.
