The author of this gospel is Jesus’ beloved disciple, John.  He was one of the first Jesus Followers.  He dropped his nets in answer to the call of Jesus to be a fisher of men (Luke 5:9-11).  This fisherman lived into old age, the last of the first Followers.  He served the church as its elder statesman, most likely as the bishop of Ephesus in modern day Turkey.  John wrote his clarifying “good news” of Jesus around 85 AD as the last word from a first Follower.  While this theme begins by describing the author, John—his gospel begins by describing the author of life Jesus.  That is the place to start– so we ask–“Who is He?” Read Genesis 1:1-5, Colossians 1:15-20, and John 1:1-9.
